A large national tile design and distribution company needed a security appliance that was compatible with their vendor’s ERP solution.
Weighing the Options
To address this requirement, logic-IT proposed both Fortinet and SonicWall devices.
After evaluating specifications, price, and performance, the customer selected SonicWall. This solution replaced an incompatible edge appliance that had been previously in use.
Installation & Maintenance
The device was procured, configured, and installed by logic-IT during off-hours to minimize downtime for the customer. The configuration is backed up and managed through the vendor’s central management platform by logic-IT.
Regular firmware and security updates are applied to reduce risk exposure from public-facing network traffic, particularly concerning the VPN connection to the ERP vendor.
Solution & Continued Management
Many organizations take a “set it and forget it” approach to security appliance installation, but this is not advisable. Edge security appliances are computers placed on the public Internet, which inherently exposes both the device and the customer network to significant risks, including hacking attempts, viruses, and malware.
Keeping devices up-to-date with the latest firmware and security software is essential for compliance with industry regulations such as PCI, HIPAA/HITECH, FedRAMP, and SOC, and should be considered a best practice across all industries.
