OneDrive Implementation for National Helicopter Sub-Contracting Firm

OneDrive Implementation

Project Overview

A national helicopter sub-contracting firm needed to transition their shared documents across two dozen users to a unified cloud platform. After evaluating several options, the firm's internal technology team selected OneDrive to meet the industry's security requirements.

The reason being, was at the time of implementation, SharePoint and Teams had not yet been vetted for the specific industry compliance.

Project Scope & Execution

The initial step involved setting up a secure OneDrive administrative account. The team collaborated with the firm's technology staff to configure the necessary sharing permissions and access levels for all users.

Once the setup was complete, users began uploading documents, images, and other critical data from various sources, including local computers, Google Drive, and Dropbox, to OneDrive. The logic-IT team provided ad-hoc support to assist users during the data transfer process.

Challenges & Solutions

While OneDrive is functional for this purpose, it is not considered the ideal solution for company-wide cloud data sharing. The client encountered occasional issues related to Microsoft Windows and networking errors.

To address these challenges, the logic-IT support team developed comprehensive documentation detailing the system's design and provided ongoing troubleshooting and support.

Conclusion

OneDrive effectively supported the client's needs. The logic-IT support team expertise in setup, documentation, and user support ensured a smooth transition.

TEAM/SharePoint Implementation for Roofing Company

Project Overview

A regional commercial and residential roofing company needed to transition a large file set and data archive from an aging server environment to a cloud-hosted file-sharing system for its team.

The company operates across three locations and employs a large team of outside sales representatives, project managers, and customer service staff who needed seamless access to data sets.

SharePoint Implementation
Project Scope & Execution

Project Scope & Execution

The initial step involved configuring Microsoft 365 SharePoint/Teams to meet the company's needs. The team worked closely with the firm's management to establish sharing permissions and access levels for all users.

Once the configuration was complete, logic-IT planned and executed the migration of over 2TB of data to a new MS 365 Sharepoint/TEAMS platform. This backend process took nearly two full days and was completed over a weekend to minimize disruption. Given the large volume of data, it was impractical and risky to rely on standard desktop drag-and-drop methods for the transfer.

After the data was successfully transferred and verified, users began uploading documents, images, and other critical data from various sources. The logic-IT support team provided instructions to connect and map desktop “drives” to the new cloud environment for easier usability for the team.

Challenges & Solutions

Microsoft recommends SharePoint/TEAMS as the best solution for collaborative file and data sharing, offering robust security, permissions management, and audit features not found in many alternative cloud platforms. However, like all Microsoft environments, users occasionally encounter errors related to Windows and networking issues.

To mitigate these challenges, the logic-IT support team developed customer support documentation and "How-To" guides for users. Additionally, Logic-IT provided fast-response remote support as needed.

Conclusion

SharePoint/Teams successfully meets the company's requirements. Users can now access documents at all office locations as well as remotely in the field, enhancing collaboration and efficiency.
